The IMTA Team Maths competition took place yesterday. 1432 students from 139 schools participated nationally. Congratulations to the Sion Hill team that competed against 60 other teams in Gonzaga College and did a great job representing their school.

Congratulations to Caroline Breen, Orla Byrne and Amy Kalayil (Class of 2023) who were awarded UCD Entrance Scholarships based on their excellent Leaving Certificate Results.

January was a busy month for our school Athletics teams as they took part in the DCU XC Schools Championship and the East Leinster XC Championship. Well done to all involved.

Congratulations to Kavyaa (2nd Year) who won 3rd prize (11-13) in the Blackrock Credit Union ‘Me & The Community’ Art Competition 2024.

One of our past pupils, Osahenre Samuel (class of 2020), has been awarded a fellowship under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP).

Osas began her MSc. in Medical Physics at UCD in September 2023, has been awarded this prestigious IAEA fellowship, which aims to help increase the number of women working in nuclear science and technology, and build up gender-balanced capacities relevant to nuclear science and its applications, nuclear safety and security, non-proliferation and nuclear law.

The fellowship provides support for highly motivated female students accepted or enrolled in a master’s programme in a nuclear related field at an accredited university. The programme honours Marie Skłodowska Curie for her pioneering research on radioactivity, which was a crucial step in the scientific journey to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Marie Skłodowska-Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and was the first person, and only woman, to be awarded two Nobel Prizes, one in Physics in 1903, and one in Chemistry in 1911.

5th and 6th Year Politics students, accompanied by Ms Clarke and Ms O’Keeffe, had an early start at Dublin Airport on their way to visit the European Parliament in Brussels. Many thanks to Frances Fitzgerald MEP for the opportunity.

All classes signed the Anti-Bullying pledge yesterday  and the school community gathered to celebrate receiving the ‘Cineáltas’ flag. This flag will proudly fly outside our school to represent the kind and warm atmosphere we have here in Sion Hill. #cineáltas  #Kindness  #welcome

A group of TY students visited Leinster House on Tuesday. They had a guided tour which included both the Dáil & Seanad chambers. The tour was followed by a Q&A with Cormac Devlin TD and Cllr. Justin Moylan. Many thanks to Cormac Devlin for the invitation.
